Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information 5lettersword.com (“5WordLetters”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use this website, how it is used, and what choices you have.

Information we collect

  • Searches and clues you enter in the word finder and Wordle solver are processed in your browser. We do not store them on our servers.
  • Settings and game stats such as dark mode, display options and your Daily Word Challenge streaks are saved in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us. Guesses in the Daily Word Challenge are sent to our server only to be checked, and are not linked to you.
  • Contact messages: if you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply to you.
  • Server logs: like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) to keep the site secure and working. Logs are kept for a limited time.

Cookies and consent

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them only where they are needed for the site to work, or where you have agreed to them. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are also asked for consent before advertising cookies are used. Google Analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are popular and how people find us. Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, time on site, device type and approximate location. IP addresses are not stored. Advertising (Google AdSense)

We use Google AdSense to show advertisements, which helps keep this site free. In connection with ads:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
  • If you do not consent to personalized ads, you may still see non-personalised ads. These use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention, where permitted.

Other third-party services

Our site is hosted by Hostinger and uses a content delivery network to load pages quickly. We may also load web fonts from Google Fonts.

These providers may receive your IP address in order to deliver content, and they process it under their own privacy policies.

How long we keep information

Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to answer them and for a reasonable time afterwards. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. Information stored in your browser stays there until you clear it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw your consent at any time, and to complain to your local data protection authority. California residents may also request information about, or opt out of, the sharing of personal information for advertising. To make a request, use our contact page.

Children

This site is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add a new service. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
