Highlighted words are common and more likely to be the Wordle answer.
The tool should offer two modes:
- Contains these letters: returns words that include every letter entered, in any position, with other letters allowed.
- Only these letters: returns words built entirely from the letters entered, like an unscrambler.
This two-mode search is the main difference from competitor pages, which usually offer only one.
How to find 5 letter words with your letters?
Finding the right word takes three quick steps.
- Enter your letters in the search box, in any order. You can type between one and five letters for a “contains” search, or up to ten for an “only these letters” search.
- Choose your search mode. Pick Contains these letters when you know some letters but not the whole word. Pick Only these letters when you have a fixed set, like Scrabble tiles, and need a word that uses nothing else.
- Browse the results. Words appear instantly, sorted A to Z. Switch the sort to Scrabble points if you want the highest-scoring word first.
Contains vs only these letters
The two modes answer different questions, so picking the right one saves time.
- Contains is best for Wordle and crosswords. If you know the word has an R and an E somewhere, you want every word that includes both, whatever the other letters are.
- Only these letters is best for Scrabble, Words With Friends and letter-jumble puzzles. You hold a fixed set of tiles, so a word with even one extra letter is useless to you.
If a letter appears twice in your word, type it twice. For example, enter E twice to find words like GEESE or EERIE.
Examples: 5 letter words with common letter sets
Here is how each mode works with real letters.
Contains A, E and R. You know the word has these three letters somewhere. The finder returns words such as BREAD, BEARD, CRANE, CREAM, EARTH, GRAPE, HEART, LEARN, SNARE and WATER.
Only E, T, A, R and S. You hold exactly these five tiles and want to use all of them. The finder returns STARE, TEARS, RATES, ASTER and TARES — five different words from the same letters.
The second example shows why “only these letters” matters in Scrabble: one rack can hide several valid plays, and the finder lists them all so you can pick the best-scoring spot on the board.
Using it for Wordle, Scrabble and other word games
The same letter search helps in different ways depending on the game.
Wordle. Enter your yellow letters (in the word, wrong spot) with Contains these letters to see every word that still fits. When you also know green letters in fixed positions, or grey letters to rule out, switch to our Wordle solver to narrow the list much further.
Scrabble and Words With Friends. Enter the tiles on your rack with Only these letters. Turn on Scrabble values to see each word’s base score, so you can pick the play worth the most points.
Crosswords and word jumbles. When you know some letters of a five-letter answer, a contains search gives you a short list of candidates to check against the clue.
Tips for finding the right word faster
- Start with fewer letters. Searching two or three letters shows the full range of options before you narrow down.
- Look for common endings. Many five-letter words end in -ER, -ED, -LY, -ES or silent E. If your letters include one of these pairs, try words built around it.
- Try common beginnings. Blends like ST, CR, BR, TR and SH open up a lot of words. Place them first and fill in the rest.
- Remember vowels. Most five-letter words have one or two vowels. With no vowels in your set, look at words using Y, like LYMPH or NYMPH.
- Check double letters. If nothing fits, one of your letters may repeat, as in APPLE, SPELL or FLOOR.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find 5 letter words with specific letters?
Type your letters into the finder at the top of this page and choose a search mode. Use “Contains these letters” to see words that include them, or “Only these letters” to see words built only from them.
Can I enter the letters in any order?
Yes. The finder ignores the order you type them in and checks every possible position.
What if a letter appears twice in the word?
Type that letter twice. For example, enter L twice to find words like SKILL, HELLO or LLAMA.
Does this work for Wordle?
Yes. Enter your yellow letters to see every word that includes them. For green and grey letters too, use our Wordle solver for a tighter list.
Can I use it to unscramble letters?
Yes. Choose “Only these letters”, enter your jumbled letters, and the finder shows every five-letter word you can make from them.
Are all the words valid in Scrabble?
The list includes common everyday words and many Scrabble-valid words. Check your game’s official dictionary if a word is disputed.
